Masterclass 4: Camera Guarantee - 13/11/2018

The last masterclass in the series of 4 Masterclass sessions held at Cloudbass was on the role of a camera guarantee in an OB environment. The camera guarantee is said to be the one everyone runs to when there is a problem.

The responsibilities of a camera guarantee include guaranteeing camera equipment on site, overseeing camera rigging, equipment maintenance and prepping kit prior to jobs.

There are two (2) important documents a camera guarantees needs to effectively carry out their job

  1. Load Sheet: This contains information about the kits available to the camera guarantee for the job they are about to undertake, see figure 1
  2. Camera schedule included in the call sheet, this provides detailed information about the equipment required for each camera.

Figure 1 - Load Sheet

On-site the camera guarantee uses the camera schedule in the call sheet to unload the tender and lines up each camera unit with all the kit it requires. For example, a lens, the camera, the camera head and a tripod will all be piled up together as a group.

To make assembling the kits easier the camera guarantee may choose to number the camera boxes and all associated kits.

The load sheet is prepared by a camera planner using information from a pre-call sheet from a Recee given to them by the unit manager.  The load sheet is then used to prep the kit and load the tender for a job.

Camera guarantees can also work as a camera operator depending on the job.
