EXERCISE: Deploying streaming servers

During this module, various practical exercises and assignments were given by the lecture.

This post will discuss in brief detail the deployment of various streaming servers on cloud platforms and local Windows, Mac and Linux PCs used to evaluate the functionalities of the different types of streaming server.

Ubuntu 18.04 LTS was used across all the cloud instances and the platforms and servers deployed are
  • Microsoft Azure: Nginx with RTMP Module
  • Amazon AWS: Wowza streaming engine
  • Google Cloud Platform: Nginx with RTMP Module
  • OVH Private Cloud: Nimble Streamer - wmspanel.com
VLC was also used to stream media content on a local PC, see figure 1.

All the deployments were demoed during the teaching sessions.

Ubuntu 18.10 LTS was also installed on my local PC using Parallels Desktop for Mac, where Nginx with RTMP was also deployed and tested.

The next blog post will discuss in great details on how to deploy NGINX server with RTMP for streaming on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.
